Elanco Creates new Equine Business Unit

To support its ever-increasing equine portfolio, Elanco has created a dedicated equine business unit.

The unit will be headed by Nick Burford, who joined Elanco after its acquisition of Janssen in 2011, and he will have a team consisting of three key account managers who each have an extensive knowledge of the equestrian industry, and who will be solely dedicated to equine practices and providing more targeted support for equine vets.

They include ex-vet Jonathan Moore, MBA, BVSc, MRCVS, who graduated from the University of Bristol in 2003, and will be responsible for the South West, South Wales and West Midlands regions. Jonathan spent a short time in mixed practice, then completed an internship at Liphook Equine Hospital, moving on to practise as an equine vet in the South of England and New Zealand. He developed a growing interest in business management and undertook a degree at the University of Southampton, graduating in 2013 with a distinction in his MBA. Throughout his degree studies, and subsequently, he worked as an equine locum in Dorset.

Nicola Caldwell will take the Eastern and South Eastern territories, and has a wealth of experience in strategic account management having worked in the animal health industry for seven years. She also joined Elanco after the acquisition of Janssen and has held a variety of roles within the company, including key account manager for the Companion Animal Business Unit, and national account manager for Elanco's corporate accounts. Nicola has a degree in agriculture and agricultural marketing from Harper Adams University.

Finally, Debbie Goodwin takes responsibility for the Northern practices. She has spent over 20 years working as a veterinary account manager and senior veterinary business manager for two animal health companies, and has a wealth of experience in companion animal and equine health. Debbie has an interest in equine practice management and has held a series of equine specialist roles in the past, working as a veterinary nurse in equine, as well as mixed and small animal, orthopaedic practices. In her spare time, Debbie enjoys walking, dog agility, dressage and eventing.

Technical consultant Ed Whittle, MA, VetMB, MRCVS, and marketing and product manager Kirsty Prudon, BSc(Hons) Equine Science, AMTRA, will be providing support in Head Office.

Ed spent a couple of years working in mixed practice in Staffordshire, after graduating from the University of Cambridge in 2005, and then moved to a companion animal practice in Northamptonshire. In 2010 he joined Janssen Animal Health as a technical consultant, and moved to Elanco in 2011. Although Ed has been responsible for both the equine and surgical portfolios, he will now be dedicated to the Equine Business Unit.

Kirsty has held specialist sales and equine roles within the veterinary pharmaceutical industry for the last 16 years, and recently developed an equine veterinary consultancy business which has ultimately led her to working with Elanco. She will be working with key equine customers to help them build healthy businesses by enhancing the product value provided by Elanco.

Nick Burford, Manager of the new Equine Business Unit, states, "Our experienced new team will offer excellent first line product support, which will be backed up by a technical helpline to enable vets to discuss difficult cases."
